Baroc is the signature of Bart Ocket, an established Belgian art painter from the art city of Bruges. Born in 1959, Bart lives and works in Bruges, the city where he ran school, the city that moves him, inspires and 'obliges' him to paint.
Bart Ocket has been drawing and painting since childhood and is a pure self-taught who could turn his passion into his profession. From watercolor and gouache he evolved into acrylic paint in which he found the possibilities and freedom to refine his figurative painting style.
His great masters are Vermeer, Caravaggio and Hopper. They relate to different art historical periods, but the majestic way in which they dealt with the light in their paintings is a constant guide for Bart Ocket in painting his subjects.
In his fascination with people, their faces, expressions, body postures, and the environments in which they find themselves, Bart strives to create something beautiful and harmonious. His powerful heads look at you head-on, questioning, confident, sensual, innocent. They catch the viewer's gaze, and they don't let go.Expressions alternate, light and shadow play a subtle game, sometimes in bright colors, sometimes in a suppressed colorite.
He lets his imagination run wild in his compositions and tries to convey the atmosphere that inspired him to create the work. He has achieved his goal when the spectator feels connected to his work, gives his own interpretation and thereby experiences a feeling of beauty, joy and harmony.
“Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror. But you are eternity, and you are the mirror ” – from “The prophet” by Khalil Gibran, Libanese poet, philosopher and artist (1883 – 1931)
Bart is available for commissioned work.
